Graduate Studies in Marine Science

Overview

Over 100 graduate students are currently pursuing graduate degrees in marine science at the University of New Hampshire. Current graduate Degree Programs with specific emphasis in marine science and engineering include: M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Earth Science with Oceanography and Ocean Mapping Options; M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Ocean Engineering and an OE with an Ocean Mapping Option; and a Ph.D. in Natural Resources and Earth System Science with an Oceanography Option. Additional degree programs with strong marine emphasis include M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Zoology, Plant Biology, Natural Resources, Microbiology, Biochemistry, and an M.S. in Water Resources. The Marine Program staff is available to answer student inquires, arrange visits to campus and facilitate contact with the appropriate faculty and programs.

UNH Faculty members are leaders in many fields of marine science including coastal ocean mapping, open ocean aquaculture, restoration science, ocean engineering, fisheries management, coastal ecology, the genetics of marine organisms and coastal ocean observation and analysis, among others. As a result of their efforts, graduate students at UNH are able to tap into significant support through the Marine Program including the Marine Science Graduate Fellowship Program, which provides support for up to 18 graduate students in any one year, and a significant number of Research Assistant (RA) positions generated as part of the more than $20M of extramural grant activity in marine science generated at UNH annually (see Funding/Support).
