The Marine Program R/V Gulf Challenger Returns to the Sea!

Looking good in her new paint job, fresh out of a haul-out at Fairhaven Ship Yard, the Gulf Challenger is now back at her berth and ready to work! Captain Bryan Soares reports that some of the major work included removing and repainting the bottom paint and repainting the top side blue hull paint, shafts were examined by a local machine shop where the cutlass bearings were replaced then re-installed along with the reconditioned propellers, hull zincs replaced and a lot of other maintenance items taken care of. The shipyard fabricated a new stern gate, replaced nylon bearings for trim tabs, and did some plumbing work in the engine room. All this work puts the GC in position to be duty ready until the next haul-out which won't happen for another 2-3 years. Thank you all for your patience as this much needed maintenance was completed!
